In The Fading Of The Constellations I Am Growing Strong

Holy Awesome Surprise Batman! Laura Veirs already has a new album coming out on April 10th called Saltbreakers! A little birdie (maybe a Robin?...whoa that was bad) dropped the news last night and then Stereogum jumped all over it today (with another wonderful track I might add). Laura keeps her eyes to the stars again with this effort until the lyrics begin to group and form converstations with just how on the edge we may all be living. Recorded partially at Johnny and June Carter Cash's Tennessee cabin studio as well as producer/bandmate Tucker Martine's (The Decemberists) Seattle studio the album has an immediate presense. Her songs always remind me of beautiful evenings with children running along the backyard chasing fireflies and the collapsing sky.

"Pink Light" by Laura Veirs from the album Saltbreakers {mp3} [Nonesuch Records]
Opening the album with the line “Sorry I was cruel/I was protecting myself/Drifting along with my swords out flying/Tattering my own sails/then I tattered yours too.” is as direct as Veirs gets. The handclaps are also to die for.

Here's a terrific acoustic performance just so you can get a good look at her.
